Northwest Arkansas artist Rachel Borntrager is an abstract expressionist with a background in traditional painting, and graphic design. Rachel has over 6 years of professional studio art experience and holds a BA in studio art.
Central to her practice is “re-membering” her body through art and helping others to do the same. She is the creator of “The Soma-Line Method™️ Workshop”, an introduction to a painting method that maps the body’s sensations and breath.
She uses layers of fluid paint and cathartic pastel mark-making on raw canvas to express memories held by the body; each line, color-blend, and shape points to a specific memory or moment of breathing.
Rachel is a MAA Artists 360 Practicing Artist Grant recipient, and was 2025 Artist in Residence at Arkansas Children’s Northwest in collaboration with Crystal Bridges Art in Wellness pilot initiative. She is currently a contracted teaching artist for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Passionate about art accessibility and advocacy, Rachel collaborates regularly with local therapists, designers, businesses, non-profits, and healthcare establishments.
While Rachel is best known for her abstracts, she also creates landscapes and portraits in pastels, graphite, gouache, watercolor, oil and acrylic paints.
Rachel sells her original paintings online and at her studio, accepts commissions for portraits, and holds workshops and classes at a variety of venues in Northwest Arkansas, including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
Based in Fayetteville, Rachel exhibits her work in local galleries including A Bold Collab, Crystal Bridges, and Kaleidoscope Collective.
