Come see,  I AM CHILD, I AM MOTHER, in-person and hear directly from the artist, Rachel Borntrager, in her first-ever solo show, where she explores the raw and real-time relationships between those who are vulnerable and those who care for the vulnerable, specifically that of a child and a primary care-giver. With the artist’s own experiences as a child and mother to guide her, this series debuts Rachel’s signature “Soma-Line™” method (a line dictated by interoception, or, noticing the body’s current state of being) where she relies on the art elements of line and color to map her body’s breath and nervous system for each memory painted.

Rachel’s gutsy and unapologetic approach to the canvas invites viewers to rethink how art and language are used in every-day life. With her paintings and in her workshops, Rachel hopes that each viewer and participant can begin, or continue, to learn how basic art elements can be a safe and meaningful way to play and to grieve, to risk and to heal, and especially, to help us become more-whole as humans.
