Painting Your Breath
A THERAPEUTIC WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS and AN INTRODUCTION TO THE SOMA-LINE METHOD
with Rachel Borntrager
Rachel Borntrager’s “Painting Your Breath” workshops reflect her central philosophy: “Art to honor wholeness.” With more than a decade as a professional artist and nearly the same depth of experience in somatic therapy, Rachel brings together the two modalities to process complex emotions and physiological responses to life’s challenges.
“Trauma can register within our bodies on a cellular level,” says Harvard Medical School in their introduction to somatic therapy. This new approach to mental health work focuses on the body and the emotions that can become trapped in our bodies. By using movement and breath to process the stories of our lives, we release emotions and lessen their power over our physical being.
Rachel’s “Painting Your Breath – Soma-Line” technique uses somatic therapy in a special way that creates a visual work filled with personal meaning. You’ll leave the workshop with your own abstract painting and the art supplies you need to continue using what you’ve learned. Rachel teaches elemental principles of art for health and wellness, for ongoing personal growth.
“Painting Your Breath” workshops are often collaborative events, in which Rachel joins with therapists and other mental health professionals as well as other artists to create something unique.
